The Jolly Anglers, Reading RG1 3EA

open-mic hosted by Tony Brown

"American Pie"

And another very enjoyable open-mic night at The Jolly Anglers. As per the previous night I think successful for me because of the audience interaction and participation, and also undoubtedly because of the warmth of the regulars who have got to know me.

I'm going to do a few covers on the 14th December and as it had been 20 years since I'd played American Pie in public I thought I'd better dust it off in preparation. The Jolly Anglers seemed the wholly appropriate place because of the lines "I could make those people dance".

It was great getting what seemed like the whole pub singing. How easy it would be to jettison my own stuff and play what everybody knows already but I guess that's not what I'm really about. Nevertheless it was a good feeling and of course great to also receive compliments about my own songs too. Give it another 20 years and maybe I can get the whole pub singing them.
