Time Machine - Amanda Ghost, Boy George

Watching the Boy George drama on UK TV last night reminded me of a tipping point for embarking on this adventure.

It was January '07, I was still in my previous life as a technical trainer; holed up in a plush hotel room in New Dehli with the ubiquitous dehli-belly, not risking to be more than ten seconds away from the toilet. I was watching some recorded DVDs of TV that I'd missed at home, one of them a recent Jonathan Ross show whose musical entertainment that night was Amanda Ghost and Boy George singing their song Time Machine. I was just blown away by it, though at the same time I had a sense of loss: that's what I should be doing, trying to write stuff like that. There was a sense that I was wasting my life, selling myself short. A clip of the show can be found here.

I actually prefer Amanda's own solo version of Time Machine on her Blood on the Line EP but after a quick search I can't find it on the net. I might put it on YouTube when I get the time. She also did a great two-hour interview with Joni Mitchell for the BBC in 2007 (did everything happen in 2007?) which unfortunately seems unavailable at the BBC but I'm sure it can be found somewhere.

Fast forward from New Dehli to here and now: all the de-essing is completed and the songs are just being remixed. Hopefully it'll all be done by the end of the week and we can get the thing mastered (again).

All the best,

Andrew

Joanne Kelly / Strawberry Sundae Radio Show

Reading4U DJ Joanne wrote a very nice review of a gig I did in 2012 and has played Something Wild quite a few times on her Strawberry Sunday Radio show. Later in the year I had a great interview with her which can be found here, the success of which I think was largely due to the obvious background work she did in preparation for the interview.

Understandably I'm biased because Joanne has been so favourable but I do think she does a great show if you like indie rock, hearing about upcoming bands and a lot more more besides. Strawberry Sundae is on every Sunday at 6pm for two hours. More details can be found here.

Joanne is actually nominated for a Sony Radio Award and I'm hoping you'll support me in trying to give her a boost similar to that which she gave me by voting for her here. Do it soon as soon as possible as voting closes on 10th May. Thanks! ×
