The Jolly Anglers, Reading RG1 3EA

open-mic hosted by Tony Brown

"Don't Do What Daddy Says."

In the film Finding Joe, Joseph Campbell is quoted as always telling his studens as they graduated: "Don't do what Daddy says because Daddy has only only one interest in mind and that is your security. And if you bargin away your life for security now, you will never find your bliss."

Indeed, those that know me well, will know that my father's understanding and support of this crazy adventure that I decided to undertake hasn't always been whole hearted. (Understandably so; he is not alone in that.) And so, the significance for me didn't go unnoticed yesterday when he encouraged me to go play at the Jolly Anglers when I'd set my heart on having the Bank Holiday night off. It was important, probably one of those moments I'll always treasure.

Interestingly, though enjoyable, in contrast to the previous week's superlative performances, last night it seemed that no one was really hitting their marks. Perhaps it was too much chocolate or it's all relative and the previous week the bar was set so high that we'll never reach it again.

My Set:

Cold Heart

The Things She Said

It's Just Not There

Finally, and related to the above, I just want to add that I am deeply affected by LH's news this weekend and my condolences go out to her, M and their family.

Don't forget I have a showcase at Deja Vu (RG1 2LG) on 13th April. The latest details can be found here.

And also don't forget the screening of Finding Joe hosted by Stand-Up Cinema at Reading's The Rising Sun Arts Centre on May 18th at 6:30pm. The start time is early so that the film will end by 8:00pm and not conflict with Bohemian Night Showcase. If you're an artist, writer, musician , or just someone wanting to break out and go their own way, or even actually dare I say, a Star Wars fan, then I think you might find the film interesting and indeed I hope encouraging. (Throughout this site there are references to the film, I hope to bring them all together in the very near future.) For up-to-date information about my other performances please refer to the Gig 2012 page.
