The Greyhound, Wargrave, RG10 8BU

Boho in the Country open-mic hosted by Rob Sowden

"A Great Heartwarming Night"

I don't know if it's because I'm reasonably familiar with the pub now (although I think I've only been four times); or perhaps I'm getting used to the open-mic format; or actually, (I think this it) I was surrounded by familiar and friendly faces, but last night felt very comfortable at The Greyhound. It was like playing in somebody's front room with a load of friends (which I guess I was, with a bar at one end).

Again, there are too many great acts to list here but I will say I do like Paula Curtis' songs. Hopefully I'm not being too presumptuous when I say I suspect they're a hit with me because we're cut from the same songwriting cloth (although she is many floors above me in that "tower of song" I think). She has also got the introductions nailed too. Did you know she once stalked Paul Heaton (of Beautiful South, Housemartins fame)? (:-) Of course she didn't but her story did remind me of the high regard I have for Bryan Ferry and indeed Ray Davies, Leonard Cohen etc.

A great, heartwarming night.

Don't forget the screening of Finding Joe hosted by Stand-Up Cinema at Reading's The Rising Sun Arts Centre on May 18th at 6:30pm. The start time is early so that the film will end by 8:00pm and not conflict with Bohemian Night Showcase. If you're an artist, writer, musician , or just someone wanting to break out and go their own way, or even actually dare I say, a Star Wars fan, then I think you will find the film interesting and indeed I hope encouraging. (Throughout this site there are references to the film, I hope to bring it all together once I get the forthcoming week out of the way).
